Into California

Oct 25   Day 47 Cave Creek , AZ – Ripley , CA  295KM

The day started with coffee with Martin and Heidi. Hope to see them again in Koeln, Whitehorse or somewhere else. Then we did visit Cave Creek in daylight. Really cute, if you like cowboys and horses. After it was hitting the road and make up some ground.
Highlight of the day was bumping into a few Ferraris and MacLarens. The passed us on the road and when we pulled into a rest area, they were there. All nicely lined up, shiny and polished, just out for a day of fun driving. We talked to the drivers for a bit, before they slowly took off one by one.
We crossed another state line, now it is California. Good bye good fuel prices. We filled up at the last AZ gas station, only a few miles further the price is up to over $ 4 per gallon.
For the night we found a spot off Hwy 78 at the Colorado River. Great free camping

Oct 26 / 2018   Day  48   Ripley – Ramona, California

Driving further south in Arizona means driving through deserts. It changes between sand and dirt, always cacti but most of all: all kind of offroad toys. We drove by an event at the Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Hundreds of RVs parked all over and the police was present and they did not even let us stop on the side of the road to take pictures. The second half of the driving today was a bit more challenging. We took Hwy 78, a very winding road through some hills, but a beautiful landscape though. For the night we did park on a private property, with permission, with some rattle snakes around us. We followed IOverlander for this spot, but it does not exist anymore so we had to improvise. It worked out well.

Oct 27 / 2018     Day 49   Ramona – Escondido

Ramona to Escondido is about 14 miles, but the winding road keeps going. Once in Escondido, no matter how you drive, you will have to stop at a red light.
We went to a Ford Dealership that finally had all but one part we still needed in stock, absolutely amazing. A bit more shopping, that was it for today. The night we spent again on a hotel parking lot, seems to working every time so far.
